Featured Topic: "Getting it Right: Defining Acceptance Criteria so there are No Surprises"

Who hasn’t worked on a project when something about the solution was misunderstood and the end result didn’t meet stakeholders’ expectations?  Acceptance Criteria are a vital component in knowing whether a solution will be satisfactory to key stakeholders, and getting Acceptance Criteria right can be a challenge even for the most seasoned Business Analyst.

For low-level details in story cards, we use a collaborative approach to creating examples that prove out the requirements.  Using the Given-When-Then format in Acceptance Criteria has helped key stakeholders understand the requirements at a whole new level.  This technique sharpens Acceptance Criteria and has helped teams collaborate more, reduce the number of testing defects, and provide more predictability in project scheduling.

In this presentation, you’ll see real user stories with Acceptance Criteria written the traditional way, and then see the additional requirements discovered when applying the Given-When-Then format.

What Attendee Will Learn:

  • what is Acceptance Criteria, and why it’s critical to get it right,
  • how to write Acceptance Criteria using the Given-When-Then format,
  • tools to use for complex scenarios, and
  • benefits realized by teams who use this technique.
